Daisy Josephine Solito Scardino, a lifelong resident of Kenner, LA for 72 years, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at the age of 91. She was born in New Orleans, LA on September 28, 1929 to Dominick and Josephine Verdi Solito. Her most beloved role was as soul mate and devoted life partner and wife to Jacob (Jake) Scardino, Jr. for 47 years until his death in 1995. She was a dedicated mother her entire life and when her children were in school, she substituted for 14 years at Kenner Junior High, Grace King and Harahan. She worked at Fitch Chiropractor for 14 years, and in 1994, she started working for Victor P. Bonura Enterprises until March of 2020. She throughly enjoyed working there and loved Vic dearly.
Daisy’s greatest joy was spending time with her family and cooking for them. She enjoyed gardening, watching her beloved New Orleans Saints, dancing, singing and all game shows were a big joy for her to watch. She was a one-of-a-kind woman and the matriarch of her family who will be greatly missed by all who knew her. As a baptized member for over 45 years of the River View Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses, Daisy would like to thank her brothers and sisters for their love and kindness shown to her as she waits to enjoy their association in Praise and honor of Jehovah once again and forever. She is survived by her 3 children, Michael Scardino (Sandra), Dominick Scardino (Kathy), and Daisy Scardino (Gary); 7 grandchildren, Michael Latino, Jr. (Melissa) Michelle Scardino Gordon (Howard), Jared Scardino, Joseph Scardino (Alli), Nicholas Scardino, Stori Scardino (Jordan) and Zak Scardino; 14 great-grandchildren: Katie(Jathan), Cody, Jake, Maggie, Isabella, Levi, Brendan, Cara, Grant, Sidney, Joel, Josephine, Read, and Reiser.; a sister, Marie Giarratano; two brothers, Joe and Vic Solito; a sister-in-law, Eula Solito and numerous loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dominick and Josephine Verdi Solito; her husband Jacob (Jake) Scardino, Jr.; two grandsons, Clifford (Cliff) Rayburn, Jr. and Matthew Scardino; a brother, Jules Solito; two sisters-in-law, Emma and Rosemary Solito and a brother-in-law, Jerry Giarratano.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a visitation at Garden of Memories Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 29, 2020 from 10:00 AM until 1:00 PM followed by a time of sharing memories. She will be laid to rest next to her husband at St. Rosalie Cemetery in Kenner, LA.
