Constance Lambert Morales

Constance “Connie” Lambert Morales, affectionately “Nonnie”, passed away in her home surrounded by her family on Friday, July 23, 2021, at the age of 89. She was born on April 3, 1932, to the late Alexander Adam Lambert and Bertha Bateman Lambert in New Orleans, Louisiana. In 1953, Connie married the late Dudley Morales, Sr. and had seven children: the late Lambert Morales (Denise), the late Dudley Morales, Jr. (Joy), the late Cynthia Morales, Christopher J. Morales, Sr. (Jill), Jeanne Redmann (Brian), Marianne Zimmer (John), and Peggy Vuljoin (Marty). Connie is the beloved “Nonnie” to nineteen grandchildren: Brian Morales, Sr., Scott Morales, Dudley Morales, III, Elizabeth Morales, the late Christy Morales Lama, Cynthia Morales, Christopher Morales, Jr., Jennifer Morales Charles, the late Amanda Morales, Madelon Redmann Pirri, John Zimmer, III, Ross Redmann, Sarah Vuljoin, Nathan Zimmer, Emily Vuljoin Earls, Ethan Vuljoin, Amelie Zimmer, Hunter Vuljoin, and Oliver Zimmer. She is also survived by seventeen great-grandchildren. She was the sister of Alexander Lambert, the late Oliver Lambert, and the late Maryann deLaneuville.

Connie pursued her role as an educator and received her Bachelor of Science degree with a certification in elementary teaching from Dominican College then received her Masters in Administration from Loyola University along with specializations in Remedial Reading from Tulane University and Special Education from UNO. Connie taught elementary school for 40 years at St. Christopher School, Bridgedale Elementary, Phoebe Hearst Elementary, and Rudolph Matas Elementary. She was accomplished in her role as an educator having served in numerous positions, including Vice President and President of the International Reading Association in the Jefferson Parish Chapter and Curriculum Coordinator for the Jefferson Parish School System. She also taught CCD classes at Our Lady of Divine Providence (OLDP) Church and became the principal of the program. Connie was nominated for Teacher of the Year at Rudolph Matas and was inducted into Who’s Who among America’s Teachers in 1992.

Connie also took pride in her life as a dancer, beginning dance classes when she was just two years old and obtained her Teacher of Dance certificate when she was twelve. She studied classical ballet at Lelia Haller and performed as a member of the youth USO entertainers. She also performed with Lelia Haller’s Corps of Ballet and the New Orleans Opera Association Ballet, which she continued to do throughout high school. Connie was invited to join the Metropolitan Ballet Company in New York to continue her studies in classical ballet but chose instead to stay home to pursue a career in education.

Connie was a woman of faith and devoted much of her life to the Catholic Church. As a longtime parishioner of OLDP, she was a recipient of the Order of St. Louis Medallion from the Archdiocese of New Orleans. She exemplified her faith with great integrity, compassion, selflessness, and courage in all that she did.

The family would like to give special thanks to Tiffany Stoltz, Taylor Owens, and Vanessa Cheneau for the care and compassion they affectionately provided to Nonnie.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 105 Bonnabel Blvd. in Metairie, LA on Thursday, July 29, 2021, at 12:00 pm. The visitation will be held at the church from 10:00 am until Mass time. Interment will follow in Garden of Memories Cemetery in Metairie, LA.
