On Tuesday, August 1, 2017, Auxilidora “Maria” Lopez passed away peacefully with relatives and friends by her side at the age of 70. She was born on May 24, 1947 in Nicaragua. She was a life-long resident of New Orleans and a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church. She was a strong and loving mother to Carmen “Julie” Lopez and Francisco Lopez. One of Maria’s most cherished roles was helping raise beloved grandchildren, Francisquito and Alejandro Lopez, son of Loanys and Francisco Lopez. She was also known for her sweet temperament, kind laughter, and impeccable ability to find a way into anyone’s heart. Maria made a profound impact on everyone who knew her and was often described as the sweetest little lady. She was a devoted sister to Mirna Pineda and Luz-Marina Pineda, aunt, mother and grandmother. She will be lovingly remembered by her five nieces, two nephews, nine great nieces, and six great nephews. Visitation will be held on Friday August 4, 2017 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4900 Airline Drive in Metairie with a Graveside Service to follow in Garden of Memories Cemetery.
