Anthony John Catalano, Sr., of Harahan, LA, passed on Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at 86 years of age. Tony was born in Independence, LA on September 29, 1932. Son of the late Mary Gagliano and the late Michael Joseph Catalano. Beloved husband of Wilda Billiot Catalano of 61 years. Loving father of Karen Drake (Tom), Anthony Jr. (Bonnie), Donna Kohler (late, William), David (Maureen), Lisa Ledet (Jerry), Steven (Pamela), Brian (Alyssa), and the late Michael. Proud grandfather of 17 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Brother of Margaret Cox, Mary Ann Miller, Sal Catalano, and the late Antoinette Badalamenti, Emily Robeau, Vincent Catalano, Vickie Laird, Lucy Robinson, and Frankie Catalano. He served his country with the U.S. Navy in the Korean War, later retired from Avondale Shipyard of 44 years, an original member of the Krewe of Centurions, and a member of the American Legion Post 397 in Harahan.
His love of Mardi Gras was evident by his active membership in the Krewe of Centurions for 39 years and served as King in 1985. He loved Tulane football, playing the guitar, watching movies, spending time with family, and keeping in touch with friends and family via email. He will be dearly missed by so many that loved him. The family is deeply humbled and extremely grateful for all the support given by the staff of St. Joseph of Harahan.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at St. Rita Catholic Church, 7100 Jefferson Hwy. in Harahan, LA on Tuesday, November 20, 2018 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm followed by a Funeral Mass at 12:00 pm. Interment will follow in Garden of Memories Cemetery, 4900 Airline Dr. in Metairie, LA. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages memorial gifts be sent to American Legion Post 397, 1225 Hickory Ave, Harahan, LA 70123 or to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 15829, Arlington, VA 22215.
