Alton Mark Parker II, physician, father, grandfather, uncle and friend to many, died on Wednesday the first of August 2018 after a brief battle with cancer. He is survived by his son, Alton Mark Parker III of Houston, and his daughters Anne Parker Dours of Mandeville, Jeanne Parker Martin of Mandeville and Angelle Parker Wild of Hammond. His beloved family includes his brother Richard J. Parker of Duncan, SC, daughter-in-law Debbie Parker, sons-in-law Paul Dours and JC Martin, grandchildren Michael Paul Dours, Emilie Anne Dours, Phoebe Rae Martin, Raleigh James Martin and Emmett Jonathan Wild, sisters-in-law Judy Parker and Cathy Houghston Parker, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his brothers Neal David Parker and Wayne Patrick Parker, his father Alton M. Parker Sr., his mother Verna Bollinger Parker, his beloved aunts Ollie Parker Maher, Sadie Bollinger, Sara Bollinger Brocato, Eva Parker Miler, Gertrude Parker and Mable Breaux Bollinger, uncles Carroll Bollinger, Norman Parker and Cyrus V. Brocato Sr.

Dr. Parker was born in New Orleans and lived in Jefferson Parish most of his life. He graduated from Jesuit High School in 1948 and Louisiana State University Medical School in New Orleans in 1956 and entered into private practice first in General Family Medicine but completed his training in Obstetrics and Gynecology. He maintained a large private practice in Women’s Health in New Orleans until 1993 to begin a career in Administrative Medicine. He served on medical and professional advisory boards to many organizations and remained dedicated to the profession.

His present and past offices, appointments and positions are many, including Medical Director of Coventry Health Care LA, Assistant Coroner of Jefferson Parish, Chairman of the Departments of Ob-Gyn of Hotel Dieu and East Jefferson Hospitals and Attending Physician at Sara Mayo, Ochsner and Lakeside Hospitals. He has delivered hundreds of babies and counts many of those among his friends today. A member of and friend to countless medical, art, library, music and opera societies and alumni associations, his interests were numerous and diverse and his generosity of time and spirit knew no bounds. He was a retreatant of the Men of Manresa, Group 17, for more than 30 years.

Dr. Parker never met a stranger; made friends everywhere he went and found joy in companionship and conversation. Relatives, friends and co-workers of the deceased and his family are invited to attend the services. Visitation will be at Jesuit High School’s Chapel of North American Martyrs at 4133 Banks Street on Saturday the eleventh of August from 2:30 pm until 4 pm. Funeral services will begin at 4 pm, immediately followed by an open celebration of his life at The Round Table Club, 6330 St. Charles Avenue, New Orleans. Everyone is encouraged to attend the celebration. Dr. Parker’s wish was that in lieu of flowers a contribution be made to Jesuit High School’s General Scholarship Fund in his name, and can be mailed to 4133 Banks Street, New Orleans LA 70119. A private burial at Garden of Memories will take place at a later date for the immediate family.
