Althea Bouchon Caro was born on October 5, 1923 and departed peacefully surrounded by adoring family on Wednesday, July 26, 2017 at age 93. She was a native of New Orleans and a longtime resident of Metairie and spent her last years with family in Destrehan, Louisiana.
She was a kind, patient and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She selflessly devoted her life to family and friends. Longtime member of St. Christopher Parish and Altar Society. Member of the Highlanders Homemaker’s Club and enjoyed sewing, cooking, Pokeno and reading novels. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren between her extensive travels. She will be remembered for her sharp wit, zest for life and always remaining young at heart.
Preceded in death by the love of her life and husband of 59 years, Charles A. Caro and sister, Lottie B. Short.
Althea is survived by one son, Richard J. Caro, MD, and spouse, Linda C. Caro of Baton Rouge, La., three daughters, Carolyn C. Thomas of Destrehan, La., June C. Steinvorth, MD and spouse M. Walter Steinvorth, Jr. of Sandy, Utah and Donna C. Henne and spouse Eugene Henne, Jr. of Destrehan, La.
She is also survived by thirteen grandchildren, Michelle C. Dow, Richard J. Caro, Jr. and spouse Gina D. Caro, Tiffany C. Burns, MD, and spouse Nathan Burns, Bradley Caro and spouse Shelly S. Caro, Terence Ryan, Jr., Melissa R. Breazeale and spouse Gino D. Breazeale, Chelsey T. Mahler, PhD. and spouse Joseph D. Mahler, Erica S. Delbecq, MD. and spouse Dillon M. Delbecq, Kristen S. Anderson and spouse J. Tyler Anderson, Blake A. Steinvorth, Jonathan E. Henne and fiancée, Stephanie Riera, Amanda C. Henne, MD. and spouse Tate J. Boudreaux, and Tyler C. Henne ; Seventeen great grandchildren, Ashley, Alexa and Veronica Dow, Emily, Lauren and Mallory Caro, Zachary and Colin Burns, W. Walker and Loni Caro, Giana, Lanie, and Nadia Ryan, Cole and Ava Breazeale, and Jaxson and Charli Anderson.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4900 Airline Drive, Metairie, LA on Saturday, July 29, 2017 at 2 pm. Visitation will be held from 12 noon until Mass time. Interment will follow Mass in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Our thanks to the wonderful staff of the Ormond Nursing Center.
