On the evening of January 13, 2021, the trumpets were sounded for the Lord to carry away and deliver Albert "Jimmy" James Savage. He was born on November 19, 1944. His ever-abiding, innate, and lifelong sense of duty to family and care of others created in him a most devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend that will be sorely missed by all whose lives he touched. He is survived by the love of his life and wife of 55 years, Margaret Dupre Savage; his three children: Albert James Savage, Jr. (Angela), Mary-Margaret Savage Marzoni (Nicholas), and Amanda Savage Bunney (David); his sisters, Deborah Savage Tillman (Larry) and Lynda Savage Veneralla; his six grandchildren: James, Madelyn and Jacob Savage, Sophia Marzoni and Ethan and Eli Bunney; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilbert Allen Savage and Mary Knight Savage; his brother, Wilbert Allen Savage, Jr.; his Godson, Vincent James Veneralla; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Isaac Joseph Dupre and Gertrude Reis Dupre; as well as his grandparents and his many aunts and uncles.
Al was a graduate of F. T. Nichols HS and attended Tulane University. He proudly served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam era, serving his tour of duty in Korea. His entry into the workforce upon graduation was in the early stage of computer programming with Shell Oil Corp., but after several years left that position to join his Dad in the family floor covering business for the next 40+ years. After retiring, he became bored and accepted a position with Jefferson Parish PMZ/Quality of Life Department where he continued until his recent illness. No words can convey the greatness of his loss.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 20, 2021 from 11:00 am-1:00 pm at Garden of Memories Funeral Home & Cemetery, 4900 Airline Drive in Metairie, LA with services and burial immediately following.
