Shirley H. Leonard passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home on January 22, 2018, at the age of 87. She was the beloved wife of the late Ned M. Leonard for 65 years. Loving mother of Carol Ruppert (Edward), Lynel Pinkozie (Dennis) and the late infant daughter Susan Leonard. Grandmother of Brian Broussard, Jennifer Fay (Mathew), Allison Brownlee (Charles), Katie Ruppert and Michael Pinkozie. Proud great-grandmother of Jack, James, Emma, and Colin. Sister of the late Elaine Held Dolan. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Henry Held and Amelia Souva Held. Shirley was a native of New Orleans, LA and a resident of Metairie LA and Harahan, LA. She was a very talented seamstress and cook. Shirley enjoyed gardening and fishing with Ned in earlier years. She was a devout Catholic and a long time parishioner of St. Edward the Confessor Church. She will be greatly missed by all. The family would like to express special thanks to Dr. Kenneth Smith for his many years of care and guidance. Also, heartfelt thanks to Shirley’s caregivers Theresa, Keisha, and Tina. These special ladies will always be a part of our family. The care Shirley received from both Compassus Palliative Care and Hospice was amazing. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral mass at the Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4900 Airline Drive in Metairie, LA on Monday, January 29, 2018, at 12:30 p.m. The visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. until mass time. Interment will be held in the Garden of Memories Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, masses are preferred.
