Michael Eiselen Sr.

September 3, 1920 ~ January 1, 2018 (age 97) 97 Years Old
Michael Joseph Eiselen, Sr., born September 3, 1920, passed away on January 1, 2018 at the age of 97. He was the son of the late George Joseph Eiselen and Agnes Frances Stiller Eiselen both of New Orleans, LA. Michael was the husband of the late Hazel Agnes Innerarity Eiselen; father of Michele Eiselen Chatelain, Michael Joseph Eiselen, Jr. (Charlotte), Frank Louis Eiselen (Denise), Alvin Hayes Eiselen (Hilda); grandfather of Michael Joseph Eiselen, III, Frank Louis Eiselen, Jr. (Rachelle), Kimberly Eiselen Richardson, Jeffery Paul Eiselen (Nicole), Megan Brianna Eiselen Oakley and Rick Brooks; great-grandfather of Olivia Michele Richardson, Hannah Elizabeth Eiselen, Hayden Frank Eiselen and Chloe Alma Eiselen. Michael Eiselen, Sr. was a long-time friend and brother-in-law to John Richard Innerarity who preceded Michael in death in January 2015. Michael was a resident of Harahan for 66 years and joined the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) when he was a young man. The CCC was a public work relief program that operated from 1933 to 1942 in the U.S. for unemployed, unmarried men. The CCC provided unskilled manual labor jobs related to the conservation and development of natural resources in rural lands owned by federal, state and local governments. He worked in LA for a short time, and then accepted a job in northern CA, where he worked in the forest. After completion on his tour he entered the U.S. Navy. His training was in VA, war broke out and Michael was assigned to the Battleship, the USS New Mexico and was stationed in the Pacific. John, his best friend and future brother-in-law was assigned to the Aircraft carrier Yorktown, stationed in the Pacific. Michael and John remained friends the rest of their lives. Upon Michael’s return home he began his career as a landscape gardener and continued with this occupation until his retirement. He married Hazel Innerarity and had four children. Michael was a good husband and father, providing for his family with love and making sure that his children were provided a good home and the necessities of life. Michael and John are of a generation that will never be seen again. That is a generation that truly loves this land and all that it stands for. WWII vets are committed to this land that they love: the flag, God, and liberty and justice for all. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Mass on Monday, January 8, 2018 at the Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4900 Airline Dr. in Metairie, LA at 12:00 noon with the visitation beginning at 10:30 am.
