Michael Ovide Babin, Sr., 74, of River Ridge, Louisiana, entered into eternal rest on Monday, November 13, 2017 in his home. He is survived by his beloved wife of almost 52 years, Judy Poche Babin and two children, Michael Ovide Babin, Jr. (Anne) and Jennifer Babin Horridge (Heath). He was a fun-loving “Poppa” of six: Sarah, Samantha and Grace Babin and Holden, Lily and Matthew Horridge.
He was the oldest son of seven children, born to the late Lawrence Joseph and Bobbie Lee Babin. His siblings include Vickie B. Gaudet, Laurette B. Blanchard, Patrick Babin (Nella), Patricia B. Hogan (Terry) and was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Babin and wife, Hazel Babin, and his sister, Jeanne Marie Babin. He was the beloved son-in-law of the late Robert J. Poche and May M. Poche who entered into her eternal resting place the day after Mike.
Mike was a dedicated, faithful, and active parishioner of St. Matthew the Apostle Church Parish for over 47 years. He was a devout contributor to many church and community ministries throughout the years: President of the St. Matthew the Apostle Ushers’ Society, Lector and Eucharistic Minister for over 25 years, Member and Past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus Council 13425, Member of the St. Matthew Pastoral Council, Past President of the St. Matthew Parish Life Committee, Past Chairman of the St. Matthew Monument of the Unborn Committee, Past Chairman of the St. Matthew Capital Campaign Committee, Past President of the New Orleans Int’l Airport and Harahan Rotary Clubs.
Mike was an accomplished Certified Financial Planner and a dedicated member of the Financial Services Industry serving our community for over 50 years. He held several esteemed credentials and certifications including CFP, CLU, ChFP, AEP and LUTCF. He was the President and Advisor for Babin Financial Services, Inc., a Registered Investment Advisor Company.
Mike loved tennis, movies, ping-pong, dancing, playing cards, sunbathing in his pool with Judy, working around his house, nice cars, the beach, talking about politics, exercising, reading, his church parish, his clients and career, entertaining at his home and being with his wife, his children, his grandchildren, friends and clients.
Mike was a man filled with genuine faith, vision, passion, drive and a positive outlook on life. He never worried as his Christian faith was unwavering, and he was always ready for a challenge. His dedication to his family, his church, his community, and his country were felt by all who knew him.
Mike will be forever remembered for the many wonderful things he did for others. He will be missed deeply.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation at St. Matthew the Apostle Church, 10021 Jefferson Highway in River Ridge on Friday, November 17, 2017 from 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm followed by a Funeral Mass. Interment will be at a later date in Garden of Memories Cemetery.
