Welcome to the memorial page for

Margaret Ann Sedita

February 5, 1937 ~ September 27, 2017 (age 80) 80 Years Old
Margaret Ann LaFrance Sedita, 80, died peacefully after a brief illness Wednesday, September 27, 2017.

Margaret was a lifelong native of Harahan, Louisiana.  A deep-rooted member of St. Rita Parish since it’s inception, Margaret served as a substitute teacher, a 25 year veteran of the St. Rita Adoration chapel and recently served on the Parish Pastoral Council.

She graduated from St. Mary’s Dominican High School in 1955. After her graduation, she was dedicated to Dominican High School for over 20 years as a parent, volunteer and employee.  Margaret’s service to Dominican included Parent Club, secretary to the Guidance Department as well as the attendance office and member of the DHS Heritage Club.

Margaret is preceded in death by her parents, Rosalie Coutrado Lafrance and Richard LaFrance and her sons, Joseph Andrew Sedita Jr. and Christopher Richard Sedita.  She is  survived by her husband of 62 years Joseph Andrew Sedita Sr and her daughter Monica Sedita Harty, (John Hill Harty Jr.).  She is also survived by her two daughters-in-law Rose Fulmer Sedita and Maryann Walker Sedita as well as five grandchildren, Lirette Angelle Sedita, Sarah Elizabeth Harty, Maria Grace Sedita Mohary (Isaiah Emmanuel Mohary), Nicholas Andrew Sedita, Mary Olivia Harty and two great grandchildren Taylor Andrew Sedita and Mary Francis Mohary as well as countless cherished cousins.

Starting in the 1960’s, Margaret began exercising to the Jack Lalanne workout program in her living room. Margaret devoted her life to exercise and fitness.  She ran in 17 Crescent City Classics plus numerous bridge races.   She enjoyed cycling with her husband and completed a 75 mile bike marathon benefiting  Multiple Sclerosis.  For the last several years Margaret was a member of the Elmwood Fitness Center where she participated in Zumba classes 3 days a week.

Margaret loved having fun whether it be with her friends in the Funseeker Club where she was a past president, or cruising the world with her husband. Together they completed 27 voyages during their married life. But her greatest joy was dancing with her husband on their patio at the end of each day.

She lit up every room she walked into with her infectious smile. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, coworker and friend and she will be dearly missed.
