Welcome to the memorial page for

Jared Arlando Wilkes Jr

September 28, 1950 ~ August 16, 2017 (age 66) 66 Years Old
Jared A. Wilkes, Jr., age 66, a lifelong resident of Metairie, LA was called home to the Lord on August 16, 2017 when his heart gave out after a brief battle with metastatic cancer.

Jared graduated as a member of the first graduating class of Sam Barthe High School in 1968 before attending Loyola University. An honest, fair and dedicated business man, Jared began his career with the Jefferson Parish Assessor’s Office where he retired after dedicating 30 years to public service. As a young adult he served on the Democratic State Central Committee for the State of Louisiana. He was an entrepreneur who owned Jefferson Title Co., Inc. on Causeway Blvd. which he began in 1971 to provide services to the public for all of their auto title transfer needs.

In addition, he also owned several businesses throughout the years including Insurance Masters of Metairie, Inc., New Orleans Auto Title East, Inc., Privatization Technologies Associates, Inc., License Plate Services, Inc., Total Software Service, Inc., and J & J Cycle Parts, Inc. In service to the community Jared was a Louisiana Civil Law Notary for 40 years, an insurance agent and was a charter member of the Louisiana Public Tag Association. Jared was instrumental in the writing and adoption of the current laws for auto title companies and public tag agents in Louisiana, testifying numerous times before the legislature.

He was a member of DeMolay as a young man and became a Mason in adulthood. He is a Past Master of Mt. Moriah-Quitman Lodge #59 F&AM, as well as being a member of Arthur M. Retif, Lodge #473 F&AM.

Jared was giving of himself through his service as a Master Mason, as well as in his relationships with family, friends, business associates and clients. He took great joy in assisting others and providing guidance to those who asked. He loved life and being surrounded by good people enjoying excellent food. He never met a stranger and taught by example how to be a good friend, which lead to building many lifelong friendships.

He was an avid fan of LSU sports, following the teams at home and on the road. He enjoyed traveling and visited all 48 of the contiguous United States of America, Canada, Mexico and Europe. He had a spirit of adventure and loved to see others smile. He was a certified scuba diver, studied taekwando martial arts and was a licensed airplane pilot. Passionate about technology, he learned computer coding and enjoyed building and programming desktop computers throughout his life. His generosity was only exceeded by his integrity and charm. Jared could fill a room with his charisma and enjoyed helping everyone feel included in the party. He looked forward to Carnival Season and spending Mardi Gras with friends and family every year. Not one to mince words, he was known for telling it straight. A native New Orleanian he often replied “Yeah you right!”, with a smile.

An only child, Jared was preceded in death by his parents J.A. “Bob” Wilkes and Marion Wilkes, and his late second wife Margaret Wilkes. He is survived by his daughters Dawn Wilkes and Julia Wilkes, their mother Lisa Wilkes, his two granddaughters Jessica Wilkes and Amelia Wilkes, one great grandson Matthew Thomas, two stepchildren Kelly Wild and Jeffrey (Shannon) Wild, two step-grandchildren Mason and Devyn, his devoted friend Merchon Rogel, her children and grandchildren, brother-in-law Lonny Ramon, nephew Michael Ramon, longtime friends and those he considered family including Marie Oakes and her daughters Kaya and Veda.
