Elizabeth Suzanne Coste Kortz, age 75, of Metairie, LA, went home to be with our Lord on April 11, 2017. She was surrounded by her family and friends. Sadly, she lost her courageous battle with cancer. She was preceded in death by her parents, Leslie and Dorothy Gilworth, and her brothers, Albert and David "Tex" Gilworth. She is survived by her children, Robert, David and Richard Coste and Leslie Hill (Ron); her grandchildren, Rebecca Sue, Janet Lynn, Dorothy Caroline, and Christian Tyler Coste, and Victoria Elizabeth Hill; her sisters, Marilyn Heidbrier, Nancy Lamere, and Beverly Schwartz (Ben); and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Suzanne moved to New Orleans as a teenager and graduated from Warren Easton. She was a proud member for the marching band, where she played the french horn. She worked for many years and retired from Sysco. Working for a company involving food was a perfect match for Suzanne. She was a good cook and her hospitality extended to countless people over the years. There are many memories of wonderful meals at her table.
Sue was much loved; her door and heart were always open to everyone. Her greatest joys were her children and grandchildren. She was proud of each of them, and they were devoted to her. Her enthusiasm was unmatched; she did everything at 150%. She was devoted to her family, was a great lover of books, in particular history and the weather. Sue was always prepared for hurricanes. She left town early, and made sure everyone else in the family was safe. Suzanne made everything an adventure, and even with upheavals such as Katrina, made it work out for everyone. She was the family historian and was dedicated to researching and maintaining our family tree records. Suzanne was a wise soul; she always saw the big picture and knew how to take care of what was important. Her generosity was legendary, and will never be forgotten. We loved her dearly and will miss her presence in our lives.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Visitation at Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4900 Airline Drive in Metairie, LA on Monday, April 17, 2017 from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm and on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 from 9:00 am until Mass time. A Funeral Mass will begin at 11:00 am. Interment will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery.
