Diane Whittington Mussle

Diane Whittington Mussle was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on April 11, 1948. Diane gained her ‘angel’ wings on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She took her last breath at her home in Lafayette, Louisiana, although her heart remained in Pearl River, Louisiana where she resided for over 20 years. Diane was a kind and loving, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and lifelong friend to many. She was an avid reader and her hobbies consisted of playing cards and bingo, going to the racetrack, and watching several criminal investigation series on television. Her biggest enjoyment was spoiling her grandchildren and great grandchildren, as well as, attending their various sporting events, recitals and numerous other activities.

She was a hardworking and dedicated provider for her family and held a variety positions in the customer service industry. She was always professional, courteous, polite and kind while working with the public. Her many positions included being a server, mutual clerk, a lead bank teller, front end manager, and most recently a receptionist for W. S. Nelson, Inc., an engineering and architecture firm in New Orleans, where she retired after several years of employment.

Diane’s children include Harvey Hansel and former daughter-in-law, Susan Simons Hansel, Gwendolyn Fontenot and her late husband Joseph Jr., Dana McDowell and her husband Brandon, and Donna Casto and her husband James Jr. (Jimmy). Her grandchildren include Joseph Fontenot III and his wife Skye, Jamie Fontenot, Ashley McDowell, Christopher McDowell and his fiancé Taylor Scioneaux, James Casto III, Daniel Mosqueda, Madeline Hansel, and Ava Hansel. Great grandchildren include Cadence, Joslyn, Jaxon, Jax, Marigny, Willow, and Mila.

Family members preceding Diane in death include her father’s, Mack Charles Whittington and Paul Jones, her mother, Edna Matthews Jones, her brothers, Charles Whittington and Dale Whittington, her sisters, Leontine Jastram and Bernice Gunter. She leaves behind a sister, Theresa Lape and former husband, Ciro F. Mussle. Although no longer married, Diane and Ciro remained friends and caretakers for one another.

Pallbearers include Harvey Hansel, Brandon McDowell, Christopher McDowell, Brent Whittington, Drew Whittington and Dillon Brasseaux. Honorary pallbearers include Joseph Fontenot III, Jamie Fontenot and Eugene Starnes.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held for Diane Whittington Mussle at 1:00 PM on Monday, March 25, 2024, Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4900 Airline Drive, Metairie, Louisiana, 70001.
Visitation be held on Monday, March 25, 2024 from 11:00 AM until time of services. Entombment will be held immediately following the services at Garden Of Memories Resurrection Mausoleum.
